The emergency crash landing in Providence, RI was an intentional destination to set the tone in terms of spirituality and religion – important themes that connect Jackie and Helen (Frank’s mom) with Frank. The plane had to be ‘shortened’ from 38 rows to 34 rows to accommodate the fact that only certain sized planes can land at that airport. The crash landing was also a means to create an immediate connection between Frank and Jackie, yet force a separation soon after their initial meeting.
